GoalMakers publishes guide showing how businesses can deduct its management training programs
The guide answers the tax question for companies, business owners, employees and associations under federal rules for the 2026 tax year.

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 7, 2026) GoalMakers today published a guide explaining how US federal tax rules treat its program fees. When a company enrolls its managers in a GoalMakers program to build the skills their current jobs require, the fee is a deductible business expense, and the employees owe no tax on the training.
The guide, at goalmakers.com/tax-deductible, gives an answer for each type of payer for the 2026 tax year:
- Companies paying for employees deduct the fee like any other staff training. Job-related training is tax-free to the employee, with no dollar cap and no written plan required.
- Business owners and self-employed professionals can deduct a program that maintains or improves skills used in the business they already run.
- Employees who pay out of pocket get no federal deduction. Federal law suspended the deduction for unreimbursed job expenses in 2018, and a 2025 law made that permanent. The guide recommends asking an employer to pay or reimburse the fee.
- Associations and other tax-exempt organizations rarely need the deduction, and their staff owe no tax on job-related training the organization pays for.
For a C corporation taxed at the 21% federal rate, a $995 seat in the Master Manager Program saves about $209 in federal tax, bringing the after-tax cost to about $786.
The guide answers 28 common questions, including how a Section 127 educational assistance plan can pay for a program, when a year-end prepayment is deductible, and which records an accountant will want. It also explains why GoalMakers fees don't qualify for education credits such as the Lifetime Learning Credit.
The guide is general information for the 2026 tax year and is not tax advice. GoalMakers recommends that buyers confirm their own treatment with an accountant or tax advisor.
